Nov 29, 2008—Gladiator Announces New Security Research Department by Ryan Spanier, Senior Information Security Engineer Gladiator has created a new Security Research Department in an effort to combat the constantly evolving threats lurking on today’s Internet. The department will be directed by Ryan Spanier, Gladiator’s Senior Information Security Engineer, who boasts certifications from GIAC, ISC2 and Cisco. The Security Research Department will have three core functions: •Identifying new attack vectors and malicious code that could pose a threat to Gladiator clients. •Developing methods to proactively protect Gladiator clients against new security threats. •Informing the community at large of the latest threats and security vulnerabilities via a new Gladiator Research and Security Website. A new research honeypot network, the Gladiator MalNet, has been launched in order to monitor and collect malicious attacks found on the Internet. Gladiator will utilize the MalNet to correlate malicious traffic and attacks with other traffic seen on our client networks. Furthermore, Gladiator will proactively identify high-risk traffic sources so they can be blocked before they have an opportunity to launch an attack. (Please see article entitled Leveraging a MalNet to Identify Internet Threats for further details regarding the MalNet.)
